Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Recently my girlfriend left me because I faced too many family problems and personal tension. Because of this, I became silent, and it increased the gap between us. So she broke up with me and never wanted to trust or love me again. I am still talking to her and requesting her to be with me, but she rejects me. Because of that, my heart is aching, and I am getting suicidal thoughts. What should I do? I cannot live without her. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

Thank you for taking help from a psychiatrist. I can understand your situation, and it is tough to deal with it. As per my suggestion, you must move on from her. Let me give you a justification for why you should move on from her. If your girlfriend does not understand you and your family's problems, then it does not make sense to stay with her. If she loves and cares for you, she must support you in this type of difficult situation in your life. She must not talk about breaking up. So you should get to know the real her. Otherwise, it will give you a big trouble in the future. So I suggest you move on from her. It might be difficult at present, but it will be better in the future. I suggest you should try to follow the below lifestyle changes to deal with your depression and suicidal thoughts:

  • Exercise daily for 30 to 45 minutes, like at least going for a walk.
  • Do meditation for 20 minutes daily. Just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing, do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts, just let them be. It will help you to relax.
  • Eat healthy home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods.
  • Drink enough water.
  • Spend quality time with friends and family daily.
  • Spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments.
  • Sleep enough for seven to eight hours daily.
  • Avoid tobacco, alcohol, or any substance abuse.
  • Live your life, do not just spend it.

Be bold and confident. Find a reason to live your life. Think about your parents. Do not waste your life on someone who does not care for you and leaves you. Suicide is not the solution to any problem, but every problem has a good solution.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please, let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
