Is a home kit or dental visit better for teeth whitening?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a few questions regarding teeth whitening.

  1. Does teeth whitening work?
  2. Can a home kit be effective? And which one can be used?
  3. Can teeth whitening be done in the dental office?
  4. What can be done to make it work effectively?

Kindly answer the query as elaborately as possible.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Teeth whitening kits at home work a little, and you will get minimal whitening effects. But professional teeth whitening gives excellent results, but the problem is retaining the whiteness. Certain habits like drinking tea, coffee, smoking, and eating spicy foods, result in losing the whitening effect and going back to the yellowish tint or more yellowish than before. So you may need frequent whitening, at least every six months to maintain it.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
