Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am facing tremendous hair loss for the last ten months. Every time I touch my hair, I get strands of hair in my hand. I am also facing hair thinning. No shampoos or serums or home remedies helped in this case, and hair fall persists. Please suggest what can be done. Kindly recommend some medicated shampoo, conditioner, serum, or oil that can be used. If any change is required in the diet, please guide.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Do you have a receding hairline? Do you have central parting? Is there any female pattern hair loss? Do you have diffuse hair loss? Is the scalp itchy or flaky? Do you have dandruff or greasy scales on the scalp? Do you take insufficient protein intake? Do you have any vitamin deficiency? Do you have low serum iron or ferritin levels? Do you have low hemoglobin or anemia? Do you have hormonal imbalance or fluctuations? Do you have any thyroid issues? Do you have any stress? Do you have any chronic illness? Did you have any illness in the last four months? Do you have any drug history? Do you have any history of procedures, styling, or rough handling? Do you use a hair dryer? Answer the questions to rule out the causes of hair loss. Attach a picture to assess scalp hair density and type of hair loss.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply. I do not have any receding hairline, but I have central parting. There is a female pattern hair loss but no diffuse hair loss. The scalp is not itchy or flaky, but there is moderate dandruff on the scalp. I am not sure that I have insufficient protein intake or vitamin deficiency. I am on multivitamins for the last 15 days. I have a stress issue. I suffered from COVID-19 seven days back. I did hair straightening two years back.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Minoxidil 2.5 percent lotion 1 ml twice daily for three months (on hair thinning area and hair loss area), and 1 ml at night for the next three months. Tablet Follihair (Iron, Calcium Pantothenate, Niacinamide, Zinc, Dimethionine, L-lysine, Biotin, Manganese, L-Cysteine, Copper, and Selenium), once in a day after breakfast for 30 days. Nizoral (Ketoconazole) shampoo twice weekly for four weeks, then Scalpe (Ketoconazole and Zinc Pyrithione) shampoo twice weekly for the next two weeks. Increase protein intake in your diet like nuts, milk, almonds, pulses, lentils, eggs, and dates. Avoid stress as it is a significant contributing factor in hair loss. It is Telogen effluvium due to illness with female pattern hair loss component due to hormonal fluctuations. Exercise regularly for 30 minutes to maintain hormonal balance. Eat healthy and nutritious food. Avoid tight hairstyles, any follow-up for any doubts.
