Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 16 years old. I have excessive hair fall though all my tests and hormonal levels are normal, but I loss more than 200 strands per day. Can you please help because due to COVID-19 pandemic I cannot go out and take a consultation? I went to a doctor before and he just told me to take a healthy diet but it did not help at all. He gave me Minoxidil 0.5% and Keralog eva when I stopped it. Firstly, it helped but eventually it did not. I have also done blood test and my hemoglobin was a bit low.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

No irregular periods, but I have a bit than normal blood loss. I am not sure about iron and ferritin levels. No hormonal imbalance or fluctuation. Yes, I have stress due to board exams and family pressure. I do not eat much and I do not like food but I only like a glass of milk and two to three eggs in the breakfast, bread three or four pieces and chicken or dal in lunch and I skip dinner very often. I had done keratin treatment, previously and used to tie my hair tight but not now. I use any shampoo which is available, and previously I used Keratin shampoo which did not suit me. So I use any local shampoo diluted. I do not use straightener or curlers. I already have very thin hair texture and excessive hair loss and my scalp hurts a lot these days and headaches too. No drug history, no thyroid nor hypothyroidism, and yes, I have dandruff. Please tell me how to stop my hair fall.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Take tablet Follifair (Biotin and amino acids) once daily after breakfast for 20 days, Minoxidil 2 percent lotion 1 ml twice daily for three months, then 1 ml once at night for the next three months. It takes two to three months to show a decrease in hair fall and five to six months to show increase in hair density. Use Scalpe shampoo twice weekly for six weeks or Ketoconazole 2% shampoo twice a week to help scalp keeping free of dandruff. At starting wash your hair on alternate days for 10 days then weekly twice. Sometimes dandruff can cause hair fall. Avoid or reduce oil application as it acts food for dandruff. Correct anemia and change your lifestyle. Avoid stress. You are suffering from chronic telogen effluvium due to anemia, less iron intake, or stress. Stress due to exam can cause telogen effluvium. These are probable causes of hair loss in your case. Take Orofer (folic acid) one tablet at night after food all for one month to improve hemoglobin or increase iron rich foods in diet. Use wide tooth comb and tip of tooth should be blunt so that it does not irritate scalp. Avoid using hair dryer or straightener. Eat protein-rich food egg, chicken, fish, milk, curd, and lentils. Exercise daily and do meditation to avoid stress. Attach picture if possible I would like to see the density of hair for better understanding. Do you have severe dandruff, receding hairline, hair thinning, or greasy scales? Do not brush the hairs when they are wet. Avoid massage and use of harsh chemicals.
