Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 36 years old male and I have two children. I am suffering from loss of libido and erection problems for the past six months. Is it good to do a testosterone test in the afternoon? Recently, I had a testosterone level of 2.08 ng/mL when I tested it in the afternoon. At the previous test, I had a testosterone level of 2.77 ng/mL at 10 o'clock.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. According to your statement, you are suffering from loss of libido and erection problems for the past six months. Testosterone levels can show fluctuation throughout the year or month or even in a day. Testosterone reaches a peak value around 4 to 8 o'clock in the morning and it starts to decline after 8 o'clock in the morning and it becomes low at 8 o'clock in the evening. So you had a normal testosterone level previously and it was done before 10 o'clock in the morning. But your recent test shows a low level of testosterone and it was done in the afternoon as the testosterone level declines with the progression of the day time.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Yes, the testosterone level goes down after 8 o'clock and it is very clear. Does testosterone goes below normal or at low levels?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, the testosterone level will start going down after 8 o'clock in the morning. But it will not go below normal in a day. As the daytime passes, the testosterone starts to decline but it will not reach below the normal value. So you had a normal level of testosterone before few days. At present, your testosterone levels are below normal and it can become normal after a few days. If you suffer from loss of libido and erectile dysfunction for a long time, then you need to repeat your testosterone levels again and consider taking testosterone hormone if your testosterone level declines below normal.
