Patient's Query

Hi,

I am 37 year old and trying to have baby. I got married 5 months ago. My doctors tested my TSH, T3, T4 and thyroid antibodies test. My TSH, T3 and T4 are within normal range but my antibodies were very high. i am unable to understand the reason and what to do. Do this high level of antibodies effect my fertility and is it treatable?

Please guide.

Hi,

Welcome to iCliniq.com.

I have read through your problem. There is one thing I would like to ask you. Was TSH level done for you? If it was done how much was it? Thyroid antibodies are basically produced by the body itself and the attack the thyroid gland and lead to reduction in in the thyroid hormone levels leading to a state of hypothyroidism. Hypo and hyperthyroidism can have various consequences on your menstrual frequency and the amount that you might bleed. Thyroid hormone plays a very important role during pregnancy and hypothyroidism has to be avoided at any cost because the growth of the brain of the child is very dependent on thyroid hormone. Therefore basically what I'm trying to say is you having thyroid antibodies will not directly affect your chances of being pregnant. You can very well conceive like any other female but the thyroid hormone levels have to be kept in the check during or before pregnancy. Since your thyroid antibodies is positive, there is a chance that you might be hypothyroid that is you have a deficiency of thyroid hormone in your body.

If at all there is such a deficiency then it has to be corrected. this deficiency will be indicated by the TSH levels and this is not a thing to be worried about because hypothyroidism is very easily treatable. If you could provide me with the details of the TSH levels then I will be able to guide you further. Hope to hear from you soon. Have a nice day.
