Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have pain in right knee and recently went through a periodic medical examination. In the report, I found the following advice. Reduce body weight, low-calorie high fiber diet. Avoid Squatting, tablet Thyronorm 75 mg one tablet before breakfast. Recheck lipids, TSH after 12 weeks. Consult orthopedic surgeon. Is there any issue with my health?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your report does not show your laboratory test (attachment removed to protect patient identity). What we have in the abdominal ultrasound is that you have fatty liver. This is a common problem in patients with metabolic syndrome (overweight, high triglycerides, and low HDL, high blood pressure). This is why you are suggested to reduce body weight and have a low-calorie diet. The Thyronorm is prescribed whenever your thyroid hormones are low (this is called hypothyroidism and it a very common disease). I guess (since I do not know your laboratory results) this is what resulted from your tests. Also, when your thyroid hormones are low you usually gain weight, are constipated, and your triglycerides and cholesterol get higher than usual. You need to take the medication 75 mcg, at least 30 to 40 min before breakfast (in order to be absorbed well by your body), every day and recheck your blood thyroid hormones in 6 to 8 weeks (12 weeks is more than recommended in medical articles).

Your weight control usually helps knee problems. Acetaminophen 500 mg every 8 or 12 hours can help with the pain and the swelling. If this persists for more than a week you do need to see an orthopedic surgeon in order to search for the cause.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
