Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 28-year-old male, and I have a rash around my jock area. When I use Dermovate lotion, it disappears for a couple of days. But when I use Lamisil lotion, it becomes redder. What does that mean? Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for providing the information. If possible, provide me photographs of the affected areas that will help me better understand your skin problem and make a proper treatment plan. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you so much for your reply. But my question was if Dermovate lotion works, then why does Lamisil lotion not work? What does it mean in general? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Dermovate lotion is a powerful potent steroid (Clobetasol), and Lamisil lotion (Terbinafine) is an antifungal lotion. So, according to your information, your rash could be tinea cruris (fungal infection), which will be more appreciable and diagnosable on photographs. Whenever potent steroid applied to that area, it decreases inflammation (redness and bumps) very quickly. Still, at the same time, fungus increases, and when you stopped application, then the rash recurs in very red form, and also potent steroids have its side effects. It causes more multiplication of fungus due to reducing local immunity and inflammation over there. Lamisil cream or lotion is just one antifungal medicine that is good for fungal treatment. Still, it targets specifically fungus, and then over some time, redness also decreases, so it takes time, but it does not cause harmful effects of Dermovate lotion. So Dermovate lotion is not for jock itch or tinea cruris, but Lamisil is the fungus treatment, but overall treatment depends on the final diagnosis and type of rash; Hence photographs require. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you so much for your reply. It means that if it is tinea cruris, we should stop using Dermovate and continue using Lamisil only?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Lamisil is not sufficient; it requires a proper treatment plan, according to the number of rashes, type of rash, site of rash, etc. But if you want one from Dermovate or Lamisil, then Lamisil is one topical treatment for tinea cruris. Thank you.
