Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am experiencing plugged ears or stuffed ears for the past few weeks. Last week, I got a hit on my head and I took Advil. When I slept, I began to hear a ringing sound in my right ear. I went to the doctor and he checked my ears. He told me that my eardrums are fine but I think I can have an aggravation in a nerve in my ears after getting the hit. He told me to take Bioflavonoids and it helps for ringing. I have been taking it for a week. My doctor told me it can become normal after some time. Is it temporary tinnitus or something else?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A ringing sound in the ear lasting for more than five minutes is called tinnitus. If it is less than five minutes, then it is not significant. Usually, it hears more in a quiet environment and it is more noticeable when you fall asleep. Crowded and noisy places serve as distractions and do not let you notice the sound. Medicines help a lot but it takes a month for them to act. Keep a table fan for white noise when you are trying to fall asleep. Try to distract yourself when you hear the sound. Do a hearing test and send me the results. Take a tablet containing Ginkgo biloba for a month. Avoid forceful blowing of the nose.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I will send the audio test as soon as possible. I have been taking Bioflavonoids for a week. I am little confused about taking Bioflavonoids. Why my doctor suggested me to take Bioflavonoids and not suggested to take Ginkgo biloba. Both are capable of treating tinnitus. Is it correct? I am planning to purchase a sonorest audio speaker to help me to sleep. I have a floor fan in my room and I am using it when I go to sleep. Is it ok? I have attached the photos of my audio test. The second picture shows the results from my right ear. Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Bioflavonoids are effective as Ginkgo biloba and there is nothing to worry. Do not focus on tinnitus throughout the day. The more you focus on it, the more your auditory nerves get encouraged and it becomes conditioned to transmit the same stimulus. So the best option is to think of something else and the moment you start hearing the sound. It is like nipping it in the bud. Before you purchase the speaker, you can try to hear white noise on your phone. You can listen to it using earphones. Once you are accustomed to it, you can purchase it. Try to hear humm music when you are without headphones. I have gone through your hearing test and there is no dysfunction in the auditory nerve. It seems to be a benign type of tinnitus. It will heal soon after taking medications, hearing white noise, and mind retraining.
