Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had mild ear pain and backside of my head pain for the past year.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Could you give me some more information regarding your complaints? Does the headache appear always, or is there a particular time at which it appears? Have you checked your blood pressure recently? And regarding ear pain, is there any associated decreased hearing or any other ear complaints like discharge, etc?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response. I have attached my files.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The CT (computed tomography) scan (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity) shows an enlarged styloid process. This is known as eagles syndrome. On day to day clinical practice an average length of 3 cm is considered normal. Although 3.5 cm is increased length, it is not that significant. The pain in these cases would usually be in the neck, more so on swallowing. But the headache is unusual.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response. I want to know the treatment, any medicine name, is it curable without surgery? How serious is the problem?

Answered by Dr. Akshay. B. K.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is nothing to worry about. It is not like a tumor or something. The doctor has already started the treatment (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity). Along with that, I would suggest tablet Carbamazepine 200 mg half a tablet in the night taken for 2 or 3 days and check for any allergic reactions to the drug, if not found, later one tab daily in the night for 30 days. I can see that the doctor has mentioned TMJ (temporomandibular joint) tenderness present which means there is temporomandibular joint arthritis. It is nothing to worry about. It is usually seen in the elderly age group, and causes mild inflammation of the TMJ joint. Your ear pain will be due to this condition, and the doctor has already prescribed drugs for that. Do not chew on hard foods on the side of your ear pain. In addition, you can also apply any pain killer gel-like Volini on the TMJ joint just in front of your ear canal opening.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
