Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I noticed an oval shaped growth beyond my left tonsil. The top is white and the bottom is in normal color. It seems like a nodule that is hanging on the flat throat surface. It also seems that capillaries are running in and out of this growth. Please see the attached picture. It does not cause any symptoms whatsoever. I am not sure how long I have had it. What could cause this?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It looks like pustule, which may be due to localized infection. It can also be debris collected and appearing as such creamy white. However, it is definitely not a lesion to be worried. You can do salt water gargles for a week and recheck. Take healthy diet and multivitamins if possible. It should become normal with the above measures.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Your answer is reassuring. I am not sure whether it is a tonsil stone, because it is not on the tonsil.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Actually, it looks like a branch of tonsil off-shooting behind with debris collected in the image (attachment removed to protect patient identity), which made me think possibility of tonsil stone. The lesion looks like situated in the posterior pillar of tonsil. Well, it is better appreciated in live than in the images, as it is small. If you think it is definitely behind tonsil and has adequate separation behind the posterior pillar of tonsil, then the tonsil stone is out of possibilities. In either case, there is nothing to worry. Just relax. You should be fine in a week or two.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
