Hi doctor,

I want to ask you a question about my cousin having white dots in her mouth. Is there anything serious?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

From the image attached (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), the most probable diagnosis is initial tonsillitis. However, she might also have these symptoms; difficulty swallowing, swollen and tender glands and lymph nodes on the sides of the neck, bad breath, fever, and chills. Also, there can be tiredness and headache, stomach upset or pain, and enlarged and reddened tonsils with spots of white or yellow pus.

If all or some of these symptoms are present, then it is tonsilitis, and I suggest you consult a doctor and take medications with their consent.

The treatment of this condition depends on the severity. If the infection is only confined to the throat, the doctor will prescribe some antibiotics, lozenges that have cooling effects, and some corticosteroids. I suggest you to use warm salt water for gargling and you have to complete the drug course which the doctor prescribes.

I hope it will work.
