Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have had tonsillitis for ten days, and it pains sometimes. I took antibiotics for ten days, but it is still there. What should I do?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I am sorry for such discomfort. Please answer the following questions to suggest you a solution: 1. Which antibiotic did you take? 2. Did you get any fever? 3. Do you have any throat pain? 4. Is it the latest picture of the throat after antibiotic intake (attachments are hidden to protect the patient's identity)? Kindly let me know about antibiotics to guide you better. Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply. For the first five days, I took Monocef-O 200 mg, and thereafter I took Azithromycin 500 mg. Yes, this is today’s picture. I have had throat pain for ten days and had 101 degree Celsius fever for the first two days, but now my fever is under control, and the pain has become a little less. The picture I sent you earlier was the left side of my throat. Now I am attaching the picture of the right side.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Looking at the photographs (attachments are hidden to protect the patient's identity), it appears tonsil swelling is resolving. You took the correct antibiotic. However, the tablet Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) 625 mg is better, too. Avoid cold or refrigerated food, water, or ice cream. Do a lukewarm water gargle with a pinch of salt in it three times a day. I think you have taken enough antibiotic doses and now do the above measures daily for five days, and I expect relief in the tonsil swelling further. I also suggest you take the tablet Paracetamol 500 mg once or twice a day if there is a pain in swallowing food. Please do follow up after one week on whether to restart the antibioticṣ or not. Take care. Thanks.
