Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have chronic tonsilitis (tonsil stones as well) and recurrent sore throat for as long as I know. While stretching my throat, I noticed red streaks, like a prominent vein on the wall lining behind the tonsil, which looks ready to bleed but does not (tried with a cotton bud, and there is no blood). I do not have pain while swallowing. Is it normal? Also, I have allergies and taking medication and Cortisol spray daily. Awaiting your kind reply.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern. It can be a swollen mucosa due to infection, as you have mentioned that you have tonsillitis. So tonsillitis is caused by bacterial infection only, but if there is a small stone formation, then the tonsils can be removed by the surgical procedure. If you are frequently getting it, then I would suggest you go for further management, firstly with medicines and then with surgery. You do not have to worry about anything if there is no bleeding. But treatment is required.

Did you take an antibiotic course for tonsillitis? Please attach a picture of it so I can see it and let you know further. Thank you.

The Probable causes

Bacterial infection.

Investigations to be done

CBC (complete blood count) and oral examination.

Differential diagnosis

Tonsil stones.

Probable diagnosis

Chronic tonsillitis.

Treatment plan

Betadine gargle (Povidone-Iodine) three times a day. Tablet Vitamin B complex, one tablet once a day after meal for seven days.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
