Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My son is 18 months old. We took him to the doctor as he had a fever, would not eat and we could see he is struggling to swallow. He was diagnosed with acute tonsillitis by the doctor and she prescribed Penicillin antibiotic, Nurofen, and Empaped. The next day we saw that his gums are swollen and sensitive and there are sores on his tongue. I and his grandmother had a cold sore on our lips and I am afraid that he might have caught herpes from one of us. I made sure not to kiss him.

  1. Could you provide any advice on this matter?
  2. Is there anything we can do to make it better?
  3. Could it be due to tonsillitis?
  4. Could it be something serious?

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern.

As per your history it looks like the lesion can be either a fungal infection or it may be multiple aphthous ulcers. If you can upload some more pictures with an open mouth. There is nothing to worry about in opening the mouth with your fingers. Also, provide the history of how many days he is taking antibiotics and painkillers. The infection is not transmitted from you which is clear as it does not look like the herpes zoster. You may need to stop the antibiotics as it looks like an opportunistic infectious lesion because of Penicillin.

Thank you.
