Is a root canal the only treatment option for a decayed and painful tooth?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 34-year-old female. I have a decayed tooth on the upper right portion of my mouth. My dentist advised me of a root canal treatment. I had severe pain in that tooth for two days, and after taking antibiotics, my pain has reduced. Is root canal treatment good for a decayed tooth? Do we have any other treatment options to treat a decayed tooth? If there is anything, kindly suggest it to me.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

A root canal is the only option for a decayed tooth with pain unless it is fully damaged. Medication without treatment is temporary relief from pain. Again it starts hurting after a few hours or days. You cannot take medication for long without treatment. If the wisdom tooth is painful, then it can be just removed (indicating the teeth beside are present). So do not worry, get root canal treatment and a cap for that tooth.

Hope this has answered your query.

Kind regards.
