Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had an extraction of a molar due to an abscess. I think I may have a dry socket as I have pain going up my head and down my neck. What should I do?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern and reviewed your images (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). You have developed a dry socket. The socket is open, and infected. Share your radiograph of the same tooth if you have taken it after extraction may be there can be a root tip or bony spicule left. I suggest you to follow a few instructions mentioned below.

  1. Keep the area clean.
  2. Do not spit too much.
  3. Use salt gargles twice daily.
  4. Avoid blowing air.
  5. Do not smoke for a few days.
  6. Take a capsule of Amoxycillin 500 mg thrice daily for five days.
  7. Take tablet Ketorolac 10 mg as needed.
  8. But it would be better if you can see your dentist and ask him for a ZOE pack as it will relieve it within three days.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
