Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have pain in the crown placed on the upper left first molar. I do not have pain while sleeping. What to do if my metal surface gets exposed?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There is nothing to be worried about crown exposure. If it is a PFM crown (porcelain fused to metal crowns), it has a metal surface inside the ceramic layer of the crown and it will become exposed with time. If it remains firm without any displacement, then there is nothing to be worried. You can take a painkiller for pain. You can take tablet Nucoxia P (Etoricoxib and Paracetamol) twice daily for three to five days after taking food. Rarely, root canal treated tooth can get infected again and so you can have acute pain symptoms. You can do scaling and do gargling using an antiseptic solution if you have a gum infection or you can do a root canal and capping again. It is called a re-root canal procedure.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

If I have pain again, I will try to come back again.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If you have any queries, you can ask me at any time and rinse your mouth using warm salt water five to six times a day.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is it good to take these tablets for five days twice daily while having a severe toothache? Because taking Augmentin causes some side effects like stomach upset. Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You can take Pan-D (Pantoprazole) half an hour before breakfast while taking Augmentin and Nucoxia for three to five days until your infection gets reduced. This is not a permanent solution. I suggest you remove your crown first to reduce your infection. It allows you to drain your pus and you can either go for recapping or re-RCT (root canal treatment).

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Do I need to take any antioxidants or multivitamins as I have more gum ulcers? My cap pain has subsided but ulcers keep cropping at different spots. Why? Kindly advise and give regular medications as these ulcers cause pain in the gums near the cap region.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for consulting again. Do not take too much tension about the cap. As you have done cleaning, your gum inflammation has subsided there and you have taken an antibiotic course as well, so do not bother about the cap pain. If it is a PFM or ceramic cap, then it floods regularly. Only when it breaks or cracks or when you find a dent or displacement from its position, then you should really worry about the cap condition. For the ulcers, I suggest you start taking SM fibro tablets (multivitamins) every day for 30 days and then continue for the next two months. It helps to improve antioxidant levels in the body and prevents further gum issues. If you are taking multivitamins like Becosules, then continue taking them.

Preventive measures

Rinse mouth with 0.12 % CHX (chlorhexidine) gluconate solution. Rinse with warm salt water to get rid of ulcers. Take calcium supplements and more fibrous food with proteins and SM fibro for three months.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
