Patient's Query

Hello,

I have been experiencing random shivering for the past year. Mainly my head and hands shake. It has been getting worse and worse for the past few months.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I am sorry for such discomfort you are having.

I will try to guide you in your case.

Please provide me with more details about your condition.

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Sure doctor,

What do you wish to know?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Please answer a few questions-

1. Is the shivering associated while performing some specific activity? Or is it present in an idle resting situation also?

2. Is it present in the head and hands simultaneously?

3. Do you have any gait abnormality? Is your gait normal?

4. Is the shivering or shaking easily noticeable?

5. Any significant history you would like to mention?

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hello,

It happens throughout the day. It just feels like my head is slightly shaking constantly. It happens in my hands sometimes but not as often. It is easily noticeable. Past history is not very significant. I smoked cigarettes and vaped but quit both after a while because I thought that might be the cause of this, but the problem is still getting worse. I do not know what a gait is?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Gait means a person's pattern of walking.

Please tell me more about this-

1. I asked whether you have any abnormality in walking straight? Or do you feel some kind of deviation while walking?

2. Any family history of similar complaints?

3. Does the shaking or tremor increase with any activity, movement, or emotional stress and gets relieved with taking rest?

4. Is the tremor present in both hands?

5. Are the tremors strong enough to disturb activities like writing, holding a cup of glass, or doing any activity involving a hand?

6. Do you feel any tremors in the voice?

7. Have you measured your thyroid hormone levels?

Thanks.

Patient's Query

Hi,

My gait is fine. I am not aware of any family history. It is more of a constant slight tremor that gets worse when I am around people because I get anxious that they will see what is happening with me. That causes panic, and that is the only time it gets worse. My activities are rarely disturbed due to hand tremors, but it has happened a few times before. My thyroid level has not been measured. This is the first time I am seeking professional help for this problem. My brother and my uncle from my father's side of the family passed away from brain tumors or brain-related stuff. I hope these answers will help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Thanks for the reply to the above questions. I am sorry to hear about such history in your father's side relatives.

Tremor is a neurological symptom that needs evaluation through comprehensive medical history, family history, metabolic tests, and CNS (central nervous system) imaging modality tests.

Your case should be evaluated in the doctor's office to observe head and hand shaking frequency and amplitude episodes along with the detailed medical history and other relevant history mentioned above.

There are various causes of tremors, but the diagnosis must be tailored to the patient's symptoms. A detailed neurological examination is done to check any other potential signs to aid in the diagnosis.

It could be an essential tremor, enhanced physiologic tremor, or due to metabolic causes of tremor like increased thyroid hormone level, etc.

Your symptoms, as you mentioned, have been present for more than a year and have worsened recently. Therefore, I suggest you visit the neurologist doctor in your locality and get a complete neurological examination to find the probable differential diagnosis. Then, the doctor may order brain imaging modality and blood tests to rule out the causes so that treatment can be immediately started.

I mentioned a few differential diagnoses above, but as I said, you need a thorough neurological evaluation and examination to proceed further. Unfortunately, it can not be done through a chat query.

I hope I was able to guide you.

Please reply if you have further queries.

Thanks.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
