Hello doctor,

My TSH is 27 and the anti-TPO antibody test shows >600, whereas the normal range is 1-60. Is this a serious condition and what do these numbers indicate?

#

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

Higher TPO antibodies mean that your body's immune system is making antibodies against your thyroid and so as a result your thyroid is not functioning adequately. The pituitary gland senses the low thyroid hormones and makes more TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), so the level of TSH is higher. This can become a serious condition if left untreated.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

  1. What is the treatment for the same and are there any precautions to be taken?
  2. Is this a permanent issue or does the TSH settles back to normal after medications?
  3. After how long can I expect normalcy?
#

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The treatment is to take thyroid hormone tablets. The dose is individualized and depends on your weight, symptoms, thyroid tests, plan for pregnancy, and so on (not allowed to prescribe medicine in the query format, need video consultation). TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) will return to normal when thyroid hormone levels normalize by themselves or with medicines. It may become a permanent issue, but only time will tell. When you take thyroid hormone tablets, within two months you can expect blood tests to become normal and also to feel better.

I hope this has helped you.

Thank you.
