Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have hypothyroidism. My TSH is slightly high, and T3 and T4 are within the normal range.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

A slightly high TSH level (5.11 mIU/mL) and normal T3 and T4 levels may indicate subclinical hypothyroidism, a mild form of hypothyroidism. In subclinical hypothyroidism, the thyroid gland is not producing enough thyroid hormones, but T3 and T4 remain within the normal range. Some common symptoms of hypothyroidism include fatigue, weakness, weight gain, difficulty losing weight, cold intolerance, constipation, dry skin, dry hair, hair loss, muscle aches, stiffness, joint pain, depression, impaired memory, and concentration. The American Thyroid Association (ATA) recommends that Levothyroxine therapy be considered for patients with TSH levels greater than 10 mIU/mL and those with TSH levels between 4.5 to 10 mIU/mL who are symptomatic or have certain risk factors, such as pregnancy, heart disease, or infertility. For patients with TSH levels between 4.5 to 10 mIU/mL who are asymptomatic and have no underlying health conditions, the decision to initiate Levothyroxine therapy should be individualized and based on the patient's preferences and values, as well as the clinician's judgment. Is there thyroid gland enlargement?

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
