Such twisting injuries result from the improper lifting of weights, overstressing of the muscles, prolonged repetitive muscle movements, overweight, weak muscles, stretching the muscle beyond its limits, etc. Twisting injuries causes pain, decreased range of motion, and muscle cramps. Rest, ice packs, compression, and pain killers usually resolve the symptoms within a week or two.
