Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex with my wife, and she took an I-pill within 12 hours of intercourse. I already have a 3-year-old child and do not want second pregnancy. Is it fine to take another I-pill tonight or tomorrow morning to be safer? What are ways to be sure of not having a pregnancy in this case?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Firstly, there is no need to take another tablet I-pill (Levonorgestrel). It will lead to excessive hormone dosage. Emergency contraceptive pills prevent pregnancy at three different stages when taken in an early time frame as you have taken. First, it prevents the release of eggs. Second, if the egg is already released, it prevents its fertilization further. Third, even if the egg was already fertilized, it prevents implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterus. So do not worry. You guys are safe.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
