Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had intercourse on the fourth day of my last cycle (I have a 5-day cycle). It is 10 days past the period's due date. Could I be pregnant? I had done two pregnancy tests, and both were negative. Are there any chances that I may still be pregnant? If yes, why were both tests negative? I had the first pregnancy test four days before the period's due date and another on the ninth day of the period's due date. Please assist.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As you had sex on day 4 of your cycle, you were in your safe period, and pregnancy is unlikely. Also, as the second urine pregnancy test is done after eight days of missed periods is conclusively negative, it rules out pregnancy completely. The delay in this present cycle could just be stress induced. You may wait for another five days to allow menses to start naturally, and if they do not, then you can opt for a withdrawal bleed with Progesterone. But you are not pregnant.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Could there still be a chance that I am pregnant? I mean, exceptions are everywhere. Might there be any exception in my case? Since one of my acquaintances underwent something similar. My cycle usually spans 23 to 26 days. So, does having a smaller cycle change things in any way?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Though there is a very minimal chance of pregnancy, if you want to be sure, you may get a serum beta hCG test done. If the hCG levels are less than 5 mIU/mL, then you are surely not pregnant.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
