Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am concerned about HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) exposure. I have a slight rash on my chest, neck, and face mainly red and with no raised bumps and no itching noted. I had a sore throat for a day yesterday and have been feeling very weak for the past two days. I had stomach or belly pain yesterday. Also, I have noticed a dry mouth condition in the past few days. I had protected intercourse 18 days ago and unprotected intercourse 12 days ago. I took an HIV generation 4 test but that came out negative. I am concerned because that was not within or post window period for that specific test. Today I completed an HIV RNA (Ribonucleic acid) test and waiting for the results. Any thoughts on your side doctor?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The chances of transmission of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) by single unprotected intercourse is low .The chances of transmission of HIV by protected intercourse is almost nil if condom is used in a proper manner. The symptoms are non specific and need not be due to HIV. It may be due to allergy or dryness or irritation. You can consult your doctor for examination and management of symptoms if it persists. It is good that the HIV 4th generation test is negative but it is not conclusive at said dates. It will indicate about baseline HIV status. The HIV RNA test is a very sensitive test after 10 to 14 days exposure. If it is negative the chances of HIV tests coming positive will be low. But it would be better to go for HIV antibodies test after three months of exposure to be relieved with anxiety totally.I hope for the best.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply,

I have noticed a yellow tongue (see attachments) and feeling weird when walking. My leg muscles feel very weak. Could these two be the onset symptoms of HIV?

Hi, Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The yellow tongue may be due to poor oral hygiene or smoking. Please maintain oral hygiene, you can use tongue cleaners and dental floss. Other symptoms are nonspecific and need not be due to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). HIV is diagnosed by tests. Anyway, you are getting the HIV test done. Please wait for the results.

I hope for the best.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
