Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex last night. I am on the fourth day of my periods and still have two days to go. I took an emergency contraceptive pill this morning, and my cycle is usually 32-38 days long. Should I be fine?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Since you are still on your period, so everything will be fine. Further, you have taken the emergency contraceptive pill, which is an added security.

When a female has periods, then in all possibilities, the ovaries do not release eggs. Instead, in your case, the eggs would have released within 16 to 20 days of your periods. So do not worry. But best, be prepared for certain side effects of the emergency contraceptive pill, like light bleeding or spotting, within seven to ten days of taking the medicine. There are also chances that you can experience nausea and fatigue for a day or two.

Thank you and take care.
