Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Myself and my wife had unprotected sex before two weeks. She told me that it was her sixth day after having her last period. Now, she has soreness in her breast for three days and we are worried whether she is pregnant. We are not willing to have a pregnancy at this point. Does taking Yasmin pill after two weeks of sex help us?

Answered by Dr. Lorena Zijaj

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As it was the sixth day after having her last period, then it means that it is the eleventh day of her menstrual cycle. Ovulation starts from 14th to 16th day of the cycle if she has a 28 days cycle. This is the period where she has a higher chance to become pregnant if sex is done on this day. Now, she can have some premenstrual syndromes such as high temperature, thick discharge, and soreness of breasts. Birth control pills taken at this stage will not help your wife. It does not protect her from pregnancy. She needs to take emergency pills within 72 hours. She needs to wait to get her new cycle. If she misses her period, then she needs to do a urine pregnancy test to rule out pregnancy.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

If she is pregnant, what can be done to terminate it?

Answered by Dr. Lorena Zijaj

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Pregnancy is an important part of a women's life. It is necessary to do an ultrasound examination to know whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy. Then you can proceed with the termination of pregnancy. It can be terminated by taking pills or doing curettage.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My wife did a urine pregnancy test yesterday and it showed a negative result. She has done this test before 5 days of her expected date of getting her periods. Is it enough to rule out pregnancy? Does she need to repeat them again?

Answered by Dr. Lorena Zijaj

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As she has taken her test before five days of her expected date of getting periods, I suggest you repeat the test after seven days. As the urine pregnancy test was negative, then there is a low chance for her to have a future pregnancy. She can get her periods on the expected date. If she misses her period, then she needs to do a beta-hCG (beta-human chorionic gonadotropin) test.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Thank you very much for helping me a lot.
