Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I stopped the Zoely Pill two months back since I was experiencing heart and respiratory problems. I got my menses last month and the following month. I had sexual intercourse twice on the fifth day once my period had stopped. According to my calculations I am in fertility period. Is there any chance to get pregnant? Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Yes, you are very much in your fertile period (know safe and unsafe days in your period). There are high chances that you may get pregnant if you have not taken the emergency contraceptive already within 72 hours of intercourse.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My boyfriend did not inseminate inside me. Still, are there chances to get pregnant?

Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Even if your boyfriend had not ejaculated inside your vagina, but the fact that you had unprotected intercourse with him twice qualifies for a possibility of even pre-cum to have been ejaculated which can possibly be the cause of conception. Pre-cum is known to carry actively mobile sperms which can fertilize the ovum easily. Though it is difficult to predict with surety as to whether you shall conceive or not, but chances are present considering it being your fertile period. Hence for such situations, emergency contraceptive pills should be used to be on a safer side within 72 hours of intercourse. You may take it even today if you desire. You should get a withdrawal bleed in next 5-7 days then and that shall ensure that you are pregnancy safe. If you wish not to take it, then you must get a serum beta-hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) test done after seven days post intercourse to check conclusively if you are pregnant. This is the earliest test which can be performed. If the hCG levels are more than 5 ng/dL then you have conceived.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Will I be on a safer side if I get bleeding in next 5-7 days? Can I take the Zoely pill again today once or I have to continue it?

Answered by Dr. Sameer Kumar

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, Zoely pill (combination of Estradiol and Nomegestrol acetate) is not an emergency contraceptive pill, but a cyclical oral contraceptive pill. You should opt for a Plan B (Levonorgestrel), or an I-pill. Then wait for the withdrawal bleed till next week which shall indirectly conclude that you are pregnancy safe.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
