Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had intercourse with my boyfriend end of last month, took an Unwanted 72 tablet within 72 hours, and had intercourse again before taking the unwanted 72 tablets.

I got light bleeding in the beginning of this month that lasted for four days. I doubted pregnancy and did the at-home pregnancy test.

I have three doubts:

1. What do I do if there are any chances of pregnancy?

2. If I am not pregnant, when will I get my next period?

3. I have severe stomach pain ( occasionally lasting a maximum of 2 hours a day) even after ten days of periods.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.

You may have menstrual irregularities which could be caused due to hormonal imbalances caused by the pill.

As you took the pill on time that is within 24 hours, there is almost no chance of pregnancy in your case. You may get withdrawal bleeding due to the pill within one week. Just watch for the same.

So wait and watch for your menses, and get your at-home urine pregnancy test after seven days of your missed period date.

I hope you found this useful. Feel free to ask for more information.

Good luck.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took an Unwanted 72 tablet at the end of December. I got light withdrawal bleeding i the beginning of this month and it continued for four days. I did a urine pregnancy test but it was negative. Kindly reply.

Hello,

Welcome back to iclinic.com.

Withdrawal bleeding is only a side effect of the Unwanted 72 pill due to hormonal withdrawal. There is no need to worry about it; some people have it, and some are not.

Urine pregnancy test should be done seven days after your missed period date.

The chances of pregnancy are not there in your case, as you took the emergency contraceptive pill on time, but for confirmation, it should be done seven days after your missed period date.

The next period could be on time, or it may get delayed due to the Unwanted 72 pill (so it is a little unpredictable).

The stomach pain could be due to side effects of the Unwanted 72 pill; you should drink more green tea and drink a lot of warm water, and eat lots of vegetables and fruits.

I hope you found this useful.

Regards.
