Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 15-year-old daughter has been coming to me with complaints about her breast having hair on them. Not the areola but the actual breast itself. I know she is still too young to worry about this, but it has decreased her self-esteem. She also told me they had clogged pores on the breast that looked like blackheads to me.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your daughter is in the developmental phase of age and could have hormonal imbalances, ovulatory, anovulatory, regular and irregular cycles. Sex hormones have a specific cycle to produce hormones, so their paths and patterns are now under development. All phases can give unusual or usual effects depending on her body's physiology and how it will react.

You go for some blood tests on the second day of periods (testosterone, thyroid function test, FSH (follicular stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), estrogen, insulin, and prolactin). In addition, check on abnormal hair growth on other body parts, like the chin, upper lip, forearms, and face. If weight is increasing suddenly and cycles get irregular, then better to have a scan of the ovaries to see developing follicles showing a polycystic ovarian pattern. If not sexually active can go for an abdominal scan with a full bladder.

She should have daily walks, exercise, and have a normal BMI (basal metabolic index) and weight. In addition, she should have a balanced diet with less salt, sugar, oil, and spice. Finally, she should have recreational activities but completely avoid any recreational drugs. Hair removal with the help of cold waking can be done.

Go for laboratory reports and scans and discuss further treatment. Take complete treatment if she has been treated for any health issue.

Thank you.
