Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-year-old female with excess body hair, which has gradually worsened over the last few years. My hair extends up to my stomach and chest. In addition, I have thick dark hairs on my chin and upper lip. The hair growth seems to have increased in the last few years. My periods are incredibly regular, and I do not appear to have any other symptoms. I would like to know if this sounds normal and if I should consult a doctor. This affects my mental health and prevents me from getting into a relationship, as the cost of removing the hair is too much.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.Your symptoms are due to polycystic ovarian syndrome, which causes hirsutism (facial hair ), excess body hair, irregular periods (mainly amenorrhea), and acne. The other causes include medication induced (like corticosteroids). Please provide me with more details to reach the appropriate diagnosis:

  1. Do you take any medications currently?
  2. Do you have any acne?

My suggestions:

  1. Please undergo laboratory tests to check LH (luteinizing hormone) and FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone).
  2. Please undergo abdominopelvic sonography.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
