Hi doctor,

At my routine blood test, my urate level was tested and came back at 7.3. I do not have symptoms, but I am worried about needing medications. I do not eat a lot of meat or protein shakes. I have gained 77.16 Ibs in the last two years. Before this, the level was 5.3 two years ago, and three years ago, it was 7.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The problem is not your uric acid, but it is your weight. Generally, medicines are not needed at uric acid of less than 9.5 mg/dL a patient has gouty arthritis. You need to stop or reduce non-vegetarian foods by 50 percent and reduce pulses by 50 percent. Avoid cabbage and cauliflower. Take about 10.45 cup of water daily and start exercising at least 40 minutes per day. If you are too much worried about uric acid, then I would suggest you start taking the tablet Febutaz (Febuxostat) 20 mg once a day for three weeks.

Kind regards.

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

Yes. I will start losing weight. When should I retest levels?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

You need to retest after six weeks but persist with exercise and diet as advised.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards.
