Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old male. I took a urinalysis test before 15 days and the results showed UTI. I consulted a doctor and he prescribed me to take Ciprofloxacin once a day for seven days. After taking the medication for seven days, I took another urinalysis test and the result revealed I no longer have UTI. However, for the past few days or weeks after that, I sometimes experience burning sensation when urinating, and pus is visible in my underwear (however, I am not sure if this is pus, but it appears to be like it) and my penis sometimes feels itchy. Before being diagnosed with UTI, I had sexual intercourse with my partner with vaginal discharge that is brown and smells foul.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Apparently, from your description, you have prostatitis which is inflammation and infection of the prostate gland present below the bladder in male patients. Prostatitis is difficult to treat with antibiotics and needs a longer course of antibiotics for at least four weeks. This is because the prostate is capsulated so antibiotics penetration is difficult and needs longer time. You need to have semen for culture and can start with Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for six weeks but after giving a sample of semen first. Some people get side effects from Doxycycline like difficulty in swallowing if that happened I can start Ciprofloxacin 500 mg twice daily for four weeks. Please update me once you get the result of the semen culture so that I can prescribe you antibiotics accordingly.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
