Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have recurring UTI. I have taken Fluconazole, Ciprofloxacin, Gentamicin, and other antibiotics, but nothing seems to give any relief. I pee every 30 minutes, and the urine feels hotter than normal. What can I do?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Most of the recurrence are due to the reinfection with the same organism or a different organism following the eradication of the previous one.

It can also occur in women with a healthy physiological urinary tract.

  • An extended course of antibiotic therapy may be needed for four to six weeks.
  • Drink 2 to 3 liters of fluids per day.
  • Frequent voiding helps prevent adherence and multiplication of bacteria in the bladder.
  • Post-coital voiding should be practiced, and the genital area should be cleaned before and after intercourse.
  • Spermicidal jelly, vaginal creams, lotions, deodorant spray, or soaps and bubble bath should be avoided.
  • Constipation should be avoided, and wiping from front to back after emptying the bowel should be practiced.
  • Drinking cranberry juice helps.
  • Topical Estrogen therapy has shown benefits in perimenopausal women.
  • Antibiotic prophylaxis has been demonstrated to be highly effective in the reduction of recurrences.
  • Continuous prophylaxis has to be taken for 6 to 12 months, depending upon the susceptibility pattern, safety, renal function, pregnancy status, and allergy.
  • If it is related to sexual activity, post-coital prophylaxis can be taken.

Continue your medications for two to three days, but if symptoms persist, you should approach the hospital.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
