Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 20 years old. Currently, I have vaginal bleeding, but my menstruation just finished two weeks ago. I had my first sexual encounter three days back. Is this something that I need to be worried about?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you.

I request you to share the following details. Have you experienced a similar problem in the past, like bleeding between your cycles? Was the intercourse rough? Have you masturbated earlier, or was intercourse the only activity you ever got involved in? Has the bleeding started immediately post intercourse or after, say one day? How much is the flow? How many pads are getting soaked in how many hours? Did you try to self examine yourself by sitting in front of a mirror for any injury etc.? It is very normal to experience some spotting or bleeding after first sexual intercourse; however, if the flow is like periods for three days, it is worrisome. Also, in the meantime, please follow the advice:-

1. Keep the area dry.

2. Use V-wash to clean.

3. Do not do intense exercise.

4. Avoid intercourse or masturbation until bleeding stops.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

No, this is my first time to experience this. However, I am diagnosed with PCOS and was prescribed to take contraceptive pills and Provera. The intercourse was a little rough, and no masturbation. I bled right after the intercourse, but it stopped. Then the next day, I noticed that I have some red tissues whenever I urinate. I only experienced this before my menstrual period. Today, I have real vaginal bleeding, but it is not heavy bleeding since it just started today. So is it possible that I have my period? As I took Provera, I started losing weight. As of now, I am 141 lbs, and previously I was 187 lbs.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As you have been having PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), did you experience similar problems in the past and irregular periods? The first bleeding after the intercourse can be due to certain things like the breaking of the hymen, and if you were not well lubricated or aroused, then due to some minor bruises/ injury sustained in the process of intercourse. Now the bleeding, as you have said, started with tissues. It is most probably the regular bleeding due to irregular periods attributable to PCOS. Do you have any other signs like unwanted hair, thinning of scalp, hair, acne, etc.? Do not worry. If the bleeding is heavy, then please contact me again. It is also wonderful that you have lost almost 44 lbs weight, but PCOS is a hormonal condition. Please continue to do exercise and avoid fatty food, aerated drinks, etc.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
