Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have done a vaginal swab and the result came out that I have a heavy growth of Candida albicans isolated among normal vaginal flora. Please suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please attach the report.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have attached the report.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the attachment (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Your vaginal swab culture shows that you have a yeast infection (candidiasis). It is a fungal infection affecting the genital tract. Please mention whether you have a thick white discharge with any genital itching.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I got some white discharge while having sex. Then I had some itchiness after a day. I had a yellowish discharge with a bad smell. Is it due to STI? Should my partner need treatment? Is it enough to take Flagyl for seven days?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, it can be a sexually transmitted infection. Please mention whether the discharge is yellowish-green or watery. Based on your vaginal swab report, you do not need to take Flagyl (Metronidazole). But if your symptoms suggest bacterial vaginosis, then you can take Flagyl. You need to take antifungals right now. You can take Canesten (Clotrimazole) or Candid V6 vaginal pessary at bedtime for six nights. Avoid having sexual intercourse till the symptoms subside. You can take Fluconazole 150 mg one tablet after taking food.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I went to the doctor after having a thick white discharge. The doctor gave me Flagyl for seven days and right now I am taking it for the fourth day. The doctor told me to take Fluconazole for three weeks and I took one pill. Now the discharge is getting reduced. Do I need to stop taking Flagyl? Do I need to take Fluconazole continuously? I am taking Diflucan one pill daily for a week.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As you have started taking Flagyl, finish the course of Flagyl. You do not need to take Fluconazole continuously for three weeks. Please mention the count of tablets taken and mention its dosage.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I took a pill last week. She prescribed some pills for my partner but I did not give them. She prescribed Fasigyn 500 mg four pills once a week. Do I need to give him today?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, you can give him today. So both of you are treated simultaneously. It is an antibiotic taken to treat bacterial vaginosis. Try to restrain from sexual intercourse till you finish the course.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Can I have sex after seven days of taking Flagyl or after two weeks of taking Fluconazole? Is it enough to take four pills for him? I do not have any discharge right now. Can we use condoms?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, he can take four tablets altogether. This is enough for your partner. After finishing the course of medications with reduction of symptoms, then you can resume your sexual activity. Condoms can be used. It is the best option to avoid getting an infection again. But it is advisable to wait for another three days until you finish the course of medications.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is it good to have sex after three days of completing the course of Flagyl? Do I need to take Fluconazole for the next two weeks? How to prevent ourself from getting the infection again?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, Fluconazole is only a tablet dose. It is enough. You can use condoms to prevent it from happening again and again. You can use V-wash to clean your private parts and avoid using soaps.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I gave him four pills to take it today. Is it fine to have sex normally after three days with or without condoms? Will it be fine with the course of Flagyl and Fluconazole for seven days?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, definitely as your discharge is getting reduced.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

You have helped me a lot. I do not want to be worried. After marriage, I decided to become pregnant.

Hi,
