Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 20-year-old female, and I have noticed green discharge and a bit of itching in my private areas. I had unprotected sex a few months back, saw a doctor a couple of weeks after because I had a green discharge for the first time. He gave me antifungal medicines to be placed in the vagina. After that, it stopped, I also did a PCR test, and my results returned negative. I also noticed that after my period, I randomly have green or yellowish discharge, but it usually goes back to normal after a week. Do I have a UTI or a yeast infection? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. I have gone through all your reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), and please tell me if you have any odor associated with this discharge? Also, please tell me if there is any rash or rise in temperature in the vaginal area? As your Chlamydia and other reports are negative, I do not feel any major worry. But since you have green discharge accompanied by itching, my suggestion for early relief are:

Maintain good genital hygiene.

1) Apply Surfaz-SN cream (Beclometasone 0.025%, Neomycin 3500u/1g, and Clotrimazole 1%) locally.

2) Use V Wash to clean the area.

3) Wear loose cotton underwear.

4) Keep the area dry.

If your greenish discharge is associated with a fishy smell and pain during intercourse, it is most likely Trichomoniasis. It is a parasite-borne infection due to unprotected intercourse with an infected individual. Treatment suggestion includes an antibiotic course for five to seven days. I suggest tablet Metronidazole 500 mg twice daily for five days in such a case.

1) Follow safe sexual practices and use barrier contraceptives like a condom.

2) Feel free to ask me any questions or to share any additional information.

Take care.

Thank you.

Hello doctor,

Thank you doctor for the insight.

Is it normal for it to stop and reappear after my period? It does have a weird smell.

Thank you
