Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been suffering from vaginal itchiness and discharge for the last few months. No visible sores around my vagina, and the discharge is odorless. I have been to the hospital three times, and they repeated Metronidazole and Amoxicillin antibiotics along with medicine for yeast infection. But itching and discharge are still present. I recently came to know that my partner had Kaposi sarcoma. Is my itching related to his disease? Could I have got herpes infection from him? Is that the reason for my itching? Laboratory tests for STI came back negative. This is affecting my confidence and life as a whole. I am tired of taking medication. What do I do now?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

As you have been treated for all STI (sexually transmitted diseases) and yeast infections and as the problem persists, it may be one of the two possible causes.

1) Hormonal imbalance such as estrogen reduction can cause itchiness, dryness, or increased discharge. So kindly check your estrogen and thyroid levels.

2) Allergic reaction (contact dermatitis) to the material of your undergarments or to any wash or shampoo that you use.

I would recommend the following;

1) Kindly use only loose cotton undergarments.

2) Do not use soap, shampoo, or solution to wash your intimate areas. Lukewarm water is sufficient to maintain genital hygiene.

3) Wash and pat dry after using the restroom every time.

4) Avoid the use of undergarments during the night.

I hope this was helpful.

Regards.
