Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I felt weak for the whole day with a low-grade fever. A lot of sputum coming out of my lungs in the morning. I have often sent sputum for laboratory testing but found no tuberculosis symptoms. Please advise me about the same.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

I would like to know how long you have been suffering from this problem (kindly mention the duration of your problem and also if you have a cough).

However, as per your symptoms mentioned above, there are a few possibilities.

It is a chest infection. Firstly, you must rule out tuberculosis. Only a sputum test is not enough. It would be best to get your complete haemogram, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and monteux test to rule out tuberculosis completely. If it is negative, then it might be bronchitis. It would help if you also get a chest X-ray to know the extent of a chest infection. To treat the chest infection, I suggest you take the following medication (consult your doctor, discuss with them and take the medicines with their consent).

  1. Tablet Cefadroxil 200 mg (microcrystalline cellulose, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, magnesium stearate) twice a day after meals.
  2. Tablet Loratadine 10 mg (lactose monohydrate) twice a day after meals.
  3. Tablet Paracetamol sos (as when you feel weakness and fever).

Also, please monitor your fever and make a record. Does it increase in the mornings or evenings? Also, monitor your weight and check whether you are losing weight.

Take care of your diet by adopting the following measures:

  1. Avoid fried foods.
  2. Avoid cold drinks.
  3. Avoid outside food.
  4. Avoid sour food and drinks such as lemon, etc.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
