Hi doctor,

I am a 22-year-old male. My height is 5 feet 10 inches, and my weight is 55 kg. I want to gain weight and need a diet plan or chart for the same. My target weight is 75 kg. However, I would like to bring my health to your attention, which would be of use while you plan a diet chart for me. I am suffering from Crohn's disease, resulting from which any inflammation-causing food has to be avoided at all costs. I cannot drink milk or coffee as it flares my disease. Red meat aggravates my condition severely. I get diarrhea if I eat chicken on the subsequent days. I have only one functioning kidney, so I cannot eat food that overloads my kidney to protect the other working kidney. A protein-rich diet is not an option for me, and I cannot eat large meals and large portions as it will again stress my kidney and intestines. I have a frequent urine infection and an underactive bladder. Currently, I am taking Mesalazine, Ofloxacin, and Bethanechol. Previously I used to take Budesonide. Please help.

Thank you for posting your query. Sorry to hear about your suffering. I can plan a diet keeping few things in mind.

1. Avoid raw vegetables, eat small frequent meals and avoid excess spicy and oily food. Use steamed food.

2. Early morning, one cup of yogurt with one teaspoon jeera powder.

3. Light breakfast like idli, dosa, oats, bread, jam, and the omelet will do.

4. Mid-morning, take a cup of yogurt with fruits like avocado, prunes, orange, mosambi, and berries.

5. For lunch, a thali (veg platter) will provide all nutrients. Avoid sea fish. Instead, you can take locally available fish or chicken.

6. Evening take chaat items like poori, curd vada, curd poori, idli, and steamed snack

7. For dinner, I prefer chapati and oats with curd.

8. Include fluids in plenty.

9. Splitting meals will help to get proper nutrition absorption and not increase pressure on the kidney.

10. Steamed vegetables will help to reduce irritation to the intestine. Yogurt will help manage and calm the intestinal lining. I hope these will help your health condition.
