Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am having persistent clearing of the throat, especially after something goes down my throat. Sometimes it feels like mucus is stuck there, and I see white patches at the back of my tongue. My saliva is very sticky sometimes, and I have a little sore at the back of my tongue. The white patches are sore and painful when I roll my tongue.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please capture a photo for your throat and send it to me.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I have attached the photos of my throat.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your tongue looks completely normal (attachment removed to protect patient identity). The thick mucus can be handled easily. You have to drink an adequate amount of water daily even if you are not thirsty. At least you have to drink 600 ml of tap water daily. You have to drink warm fluids daily. Warm fluids plus an adequate amount of water make the mucus thin. White patches on your tongue and mouth can be a fungal infection, but your mouth is clear now, as I see in the pictures. The ordinary daily mouth hygiene as brushing teeth and mouth gargle is enough to eradicate any white patches. If you have any allergy symptoms like nasal itching, eye itching, pharyngeal itching, excessive sneezing, excessive rhinorrhea, you would have to use an antihistamine tablet Levohistam (Levocetirizine) once daily.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

My major problem is my scratchy throat, the feeling that something is stuck there. Is it because of those white patches? This persistent throat clearing has been going on for months.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Itchy throat is mostly an allergic reaction. Use a daily antihistamine tablet until the itching subsides. You can repeat the treatment when the itching comes back after several months.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
