Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I received oral sex from someone whose status was unknown to me. I was not feeling well the day after, so I went to the doctor, and they said I had pharyngitis (group A Streptococcus), so they treated me with Amoxicillin, and the symptoms disappeared except for the white tongue. I have been under anxiety since then. I took three tests already within the following window period. RT-PCR(Reverse Transcriptase - Polymerase Chain Reaction) after 15 days. Fourth generation test (antigen/antibody) after four weeks. Another fourth generation test after six weeks (end of window period). They all came negative, but I am very concerned as my tongue has white patches. Are the results of the HIV test accurate? Kindly help.

Hello, Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. White tongue is not related to sex. It can be due to conditions like constipation, fungal infections, etc. You have done a lot of tests, and all are nonreactive. The chances of HIV are very low if the test results are negative. I would suggest some antifungal medications: Fluconazole 200 mg once daily for five days. Clean your tongue using a tongue cleaner.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your quick reply.

Are six weeks enough for conclusive results in HIV? I have attached a picture of my tongue.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I had seen the picture of your tongue. You can use sodium bicarbonate with a gauze piece to clean the tongue. I had seen the picture of your tongue.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
