Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Why does my tongue appear white in the morning? There is no pain or lesions. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The reason for the tongue to have a white layered coating by morning is usually when you do not brush at night.

Brushing at nighttime is equally important like you brush during the day. When you usually consume any food at night and do not brush your teeth, the food tends to get lodged in the papillae or taste buds of your tongue. It can smell bad, and bacterial ingress will be more in the tongue at night. So I would recommend you to brush twice a day, especially at night post-dinner, and using the back side of the toothbrush, you can brush the tongue at least once daily. If you need any particular gel or antibiotic prophylaxis to get rid of the white layer, please consult a dentist in person, discuss it with them and start taking the medications with their consent.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
