Hi doctor,
A month ago, I had my wisdom teeth removed. All four were impacted. About a week ago, I started tasting cigarettes in my mouth no matter what I did, and I do not even smoke. To top it off, I have this really bad pain in my gums near that socket and pain in the cheek, eye, and ear on the same side from it. It is to the point where it is starting to be really painful to eat. Kindly advise.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read through your complaint and the relevant details. Firstly, I would like to ask you a few questions. What are the antibiotics you are currently taking? And was the extraction under local anesthesia in one shot?
In my opinion, I guess the cigarette taste should be because of the antibiotic tablet Metronidazole, which is one of the side effects of the drug. And the pain near the socket, which radiates from the cheek region to the ear, could be because of poor healing. This has to be checked, so I reckon you visit the dentist back and sort it out. If there is poor gum healing around that socket, it has to be thoroughly cleaned, and medication has to be placed.
Meanwhile, please maintain good oral hygiene and gently gargle with warm saline water thrice daily. For immediate pain relief, crush the tablet Ketorol DT (Ketorolac)10 mg in half glass of water and drink it straight away. You will feel good in 15 minutes.
Thanks and Regards.
