Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have terrible anxiety and went to the dentist twice last month. They told me years back that my wisdom teeth were impacted, causing infections in my mouth, and that I have canker sores. My symptoms always seem to be linked to cancer whenever I search on the internet. My dentist explained that the bump in my mouth was a salivary gland bump filled with mucous. Since nothing is coming out of it, he is 99.9 % certain it is not dangerous. However, my tongue is sore today, and I am worried.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It could be a common aphthous ulcer (canker sore). Several factors cause it. It could be due to a lack of vitamins, hormonal changes, psychological stress, allergies, an accident, or bacterial infection. A clear clinical image of the ulcer or bump will aid in determining what it is and what caused it. It may take a few weeks to heal if you have an aphthous ulcer. White tissue over that area could be healing tissues. Please do not bother them.

Furthermore, mucocele and canker sores are not cancerous. Your doctor was correct. Please have your impacted wisdom tooth extracted as soon as possible. I suggest you avoid hot and spicy foods and rinse your mouth thrice daily with warm saline. In addition, drink lots of water and keep yourself hydrated at all times. Also, rinse your mouth after every meal. Maintaining good oral hygiene and following the instructions mentioned above will help to prevent further ulcer infections and promote faster healing. A topical anesthetic like Orajel (Benzocaine Oropharyngeal) can be applied over the ulcers with a clean finger. You can do this before a meal so that they become numb after application and do not interfere with your normal food intake.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
