Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am currently in the middle of switching countries and only be around in a country for another week. I would like to know if this wisdom tooth infection can wait until I get to another country or if I should see my dentist. Pain level 2/10 for the last two days when this first appeared. Please suggest.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Kindly answer my question.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

Yes, The last tooth in the image ((attachment removed to protect patient's identity)) is your wisdom tooth, which is decayed. Although the decay is not severe, an infected wisdom tooth can cause pain, swelling, and even spread to surrounding lymph nodes in the neck. However, it can wait until you shift to another country, and two to four weekswill be fine. In the meantime, you can follow some non-surgical remedies, such as rinsing with lukewarm salt water five to six times a day for a week, applying Dentogel or vitamin E-based evion gel to the gum area, and using Chlorhexidine Gluconate mouthwash twice a day. Do not eat hot, hard or spicy foods for two weeks if the infection aggravates. Be on a soft diet and drink plenty of fluids. The pain level is only 2, but the molar is infected and cavitated, so ideally, it will need extraction after a month or two. So, you can follow these measures and let me know if I can prescribe antibiotic prophylaxis for you. Because if you are ready for antibiotic therapy for at least three to five days, you can avert the wisdom tooth extraction for a few months.

I suggest you can start with Amoxicillin 500 mg twice daily for three days after food. I hope you are not allergic to Penicillin. And for pain, you can take Diclofenac ( Dolokind plus - local brands will vary) one tablet after food. If you have acidity, take Pan D (Domperidone and Pantoprazole).half an hour before food.

I hope this helps.

Regards.
