Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 32-year-old female, with pain in my lower left wisdom tooth for the past three days. The dentist whom I had consulted previously had suggested to come back for a follow-up after taking three days of antibiotics. However, I still have pain in my wisdom tooth. Should I consult the dentist for the extraction or wait till the pain subsides? What are your suggestions for post-extraction care? Kindly help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Since you have taken an antibiotic course of three days, you can proceed with the extraction. For post-extraction care, I suggest you follow these steps

  1. The cotton that is placed in the socket after extraction must be removed after one hour.
  2. Consume cold food items like ice cream or fruit juice.
  3. Avoid using a straw for drinking.
  4. Avoid spitting for 24 hours.
  5. Avoid gargling for 24 hours.
  6. Apply cold compression for 24 hours.

I hope your queries are resolved, and further queries are welcome.

Thank you and take care.
