Is there a risk of pregnancy if vomiting occurs after taking an I-pill?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My partner had the last day of her period at the end of the last month. We had unprotected sex at the start of this month as soon as her periods stopped. She took an I-pill after four to five hours. But after two to three hours of taking the pill, she vomited. She felt a little bleeding a week after that. Could this be just withdrawal bleeding? Could she be pregnant or is there a reason to consult a doctor immediately and get some tests done? Did the I-pill work if she is bleeding now and when can she expect her next period?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As you already had intercourse on her safe period plus you also took an emergency contraceptive pill within 72 hours of intercourse, then there is a negligible chance of getting pregnant. If she would have vomited within an hour then we could have said the pill would not work. That bleeding must be withdrawal bleeding only. Do not worry her periods will get as her due date or there might be a fluctuation of one week. Right now even if she is pregnant a pregnancy kit would not show any reliable results, so just relax and wait till her due date.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
