Patient's Query

Hello doctor

I am a 38-year-old woman and had my first unprotected sex last month. My last period day was four days before sex. My menstrual cycle is about 19 to 21 days. I had my next period 18 days after sex lasted for four days. The period was normal, but very little slow flow. After the day of intercourse, I had a yellow sticky discharge with a bad smell, and about three days before my period, I had spotting. Also, on the last day of my period, I now have a very watery, sometimes clear, or light yellow discharge with a bad smell. Some itchiness and stinging feeling were also present before and especially after my period (with the water discharges). As of today, it has been 26 days exactly since I had sex, and I have been tested for pregnancy at home many times, and it was negative. I do not have pregnancy symptoms. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your symptoms indicate bacterial vaginosis, a bacterial infection contracted by your partner post intercourse. The chances of pregnancy are minimal as you have already had your menses post intercourse, and to substantiate the fact, your multiple urine pregnancy tests have turned out to be negative.

So, in my opinion, you presently require an antibiotic course for seven days, along with the use of an alkaline vaginal wash for the next seven days.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

When can I completely rule out pregnancy? This is the first time I have experienced such a watery discharge. I do not know if it matters, but I have one pimple or acne on my eyebrows which has not happened for a very long time. It appeared after my period. I am 38-year-old and have never had any sexual intercourse before.

What are the chances of pregnancy? Concerning my very watery discharge, as I searched the internet, it made me very confused and worried. That is why I came to your application to get the correct final answer from a professional doctor. I wanted to remind you that it has been 26 days since intercourse and over 15 urine home pregnancy tests done until today. All were negative. Kindly advise as I am very much worried and stressed.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

When the urine pregnancy test kit is negative, then you are not pregnant. However, if you do not believe the kits, then the most conclusive way to find out or rule out pregnancy would be to get a blood serum beta hCG test. If the beta hCG levels are less than 5, then you are indeed not pregnant. This test can be done as early as eight days post the last intercourse. It is a highly specific and sensitive test and is the gold standard for ruling out early pregnancy. So you can get it done tomorrow or even today.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
