Is splinting the best treatment option for my ankle injury?

Hi doctor,

I am a 48-year-old male. I had an X-ray of my right ankle. The technique used was three view exam. The findings are as follows: Spiral fracture of the distal fibula. This is anatomic in alignment. Cortical avulsion of the medial malleolar process. The cortex of the malleolus at the deltoid ligament attachment has been avulsed. There is a nondisplaced posterior tibial malar fracture. The talus appears to sit somewhat posterior in the ankle joint on the lateral view which could be a rotation. I believe there is an incidental fibrous cortical lesion on the lateral surface of the tibial shaft just above the ankle joint. Note that for thoroughness. A hard half splint was applied in ER and that same splint remains on after a visit with an orthopedic surgeon. I have a follow-up visit in a few days. My concern is, was this the best course of treatment for this injury? I was told that I could bear weight as tolerated but that is nearly impossible due to the amount of discomfort. This damage was caused by a fall. I have attached my X-rays here.

What could cause nerve pain in the ankle that worsens with activities?

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female, 5 feet and 5 inches, 130 pounds, and on no current medications and feeling nerve pain, I believe that it may be the left ankle. It was a week ago that I got it. I was walking around a corner and did not see where I was going and hit a nerve in my ankle and it shocked up. I thought the pain would go away like it where in your arm. But I have been there all week. I had dance class and when I danced it did not hurt so I kept dancing but now the pain has traveled up my leg to my knee and would not go away. Sometimes I feel like it is very hard to move my leg like I cannot control it as if it was asleep, especially after I sit down and rest for a while. I would like your input as to what it is and what to do.

What is the surgical treatment for a sprained ankle?

Hello doctor,

I am looking for a second opinion on surgical options for a grade 3 sprained ankle. I have attached herewith the MRI results. The results show a ruptured anterior tibiofibular ligament and a partial tear of the posterior tibiofibular ligament with disruption of distal tibiofibular syndesmosis with mild adjacent muscles edema, likely distal tibiofibular syndesmotic injury. They also show posterior talofibular, calcaneofibular, and deltoid ligament sprain. Mild marrow edema at the distal fibula. Tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus, flexor hallucis longus tenosynovitis. A small amount of fluid in the tibiotalar joint. Subcutaneous edema around the ankle. Kindly provide your opinion.

How to recover from a hunched back due to poor posture?

Hello doctor,

I am a 17-year-old male. I have an extremely poor back posture. It came from forever not keeping my back straight and watching tv, reading, and other sedentary activities that leave my back hunched over. Now, despite being skinny, my core is lopsided, there is no tone whatsoever, and I imagine it had done a lot of mental effects as well. I would also like to mention that I cannot push out my belly and breathe deeply without hurting my lower back. When I try to stand up with correct posture, I shake uncontrollably as if I have no stability. I want to know if there is any possible program to help with this to get me back on track physically? Are there ways for me to recover from the mental and respiratory effects too? I have pictures of me to give you an idea of what I am dealing with. What exercises can I do to develop muscles here?
